Railroad Days is an annual celebration of all things train and track, and this year, all the fun will be happening in Council Bluffs! Celebrate CB's rich railroad heritage and place in history as historic Mile Zero for Union Pacific Railroad. There will be numerous train-themed activities and locations to visit between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023.
The Union Pacific Railroad Museum, RailsWest Railroad Museum, Pottawattamie Arts, Culture and Entertainment (PACE), the Historic General Dodge House, and the Historic 100 Block of Council Bluffs are again teaming up to offer this annual event. Kids will be excited to ride the trollies to each participating location and to take part in numerous hands-on activities with interactive technology and exhibits that explore the vast world of the railroad!
We will be hosting a few different events for the public to take part in as they visit the Hoff Center during their tour. This will include:
- A Train Gear Assembling Activity (video example)
- We will need your help maintaining our train! As kids and families arrive, help them put the gears in the correct spots to make the train run! As they leave, take the gears off to have the next family's help!
- Spin Art Activity (video example)
- During this activity, you will be helping maintain a significant level of art supplies for the spin art activity. You will help hand out aprons, brushes, paint, and whatever else they will need. You will also help show people how to use the pottery wheels to get the most efficient spin!
- Panning for Gold Activity (video example)
- We will be simulating a rushing river right in our parking lot! We need your help to teach kids and families how to dig up a bit of sand, and sift through the sand to find their very own fool's gold! You also may need to help with stocking and maintaining the river.
- N Scale Club - Model Train Engine Club!
- Ice Cream Trucks
- Bead Necklace/Jewelry Activity
- You will help kids and families create their very own jewelry masterpieces! Necklaces, bracelets, anklets and more!
- Train Drawing Activity
- Help provide kiddos instruction on how to draw their own train!
- Train Painting/Coloring Activity
- Help maintain and keep the paint and coloring supplies for kiddos who want to fill in the lines instead of draw their own!

Most of these activities are outside. Please consider the weather and whether or not you can participate by being outdoors for an extended period of time. We will be providing water and snacks, and you will have the capability to take a break as needed.
You will be working directly with our Creative Team on this event. They will be the ones to provide instructions and details on how to best fulfill your role.
ATTIRE:
Please wear clothes you aren't afraid of getting dirty! We will provide either a Railroad Days Shirt or a PACE Shirt for you to wear during your shift. PLEASE INCLUDE SHIRT SIZE IN THE "ADDITIONAL NOTES" SECTION WHEN RESPONDING TO THIS SHIFT.
